«THE SPECTRUM» de Philadelphia

El Philadelphia SPECTRUM, anteriormente conocido también como CoreStates Spectrum (1996–1998), First Union Spectrum (1998–2003) y Wachovia Spectrum (desde 2003) es un pabellón deportivo situado en la ciudad de Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fue inaugurado en el otoño de 1967 como parte del Complejo Deportivo del Sur de Philadelphia y cuenta con una capacidad para 18.136 espectadores.

Se cerró formalmente el 31 de octubre de 2009, tras una serie de 4 conciertos de Pearl Jam. Está planeado que sea demolido y que en su lugar se construya un complejo hotelero. Su construccción duró 16 meses, y tuvo un coste total aproximado de 7 millones de dólares.

Además de acontecimientos deportivos recogió innumerables conciertos de música.

Casi todos los grupos y cantantes de fama internacional han tocado en alguna ocasión en el Spectrum. Los Grateful Dead actuaron en 53 ocasiones, mientras que Aerosmith lo hizo en 23 ocasiones ente 1976 y 1994. De entre el resto de artistas que han actuado en el recinto destacan Cream, Green Day, The Who, Pink Floyd, Genesis, KISS, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Band, Led Zeppelin, Wings, David Bowie, Queen, Elvis Presley, The Police, The Go-Go’s, Prince & The Revolution, Sting, Robert Plant, Madonna, Beastie Boys, Janet Jackson, Bon Jovi, Rush, Primus, Van Halen, AC/DC, Dio, Roger Waters, The Cure, Def Leppard, Journey, Cher, U2, Page & Plant, George Michael, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Queensrÿche, The Cult, Metal Church, Guns N’ Roses, Pixies, Mariah Carey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dire Straits, Phish, ‘N Sync, Sisqo, P!nk, The Cheetah Girls, Vanessa Hudgens, Jordan Pruitt, Queen + Paul Rodgers, High School Musical, Foo Fighters y Kings of Leon, entre muchos otros.

Con la demolición de este complejo se va parte de la historia
de los directos de ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA
y este artículo lo hacemos en recuerdo de esa historia.

A tenor de la noticia de la demolición de THE SPECTRUM recordamos que el pasado año 2009 «ELO SECRET MESSAGES» publicó un curioso e interesante artículo en su blog en el que rememoraban uno de los conciertos de ELO en este recinto y en el que incluían varias fotografías de ese evento, de las cuales recogemos dos, así como el artículo íntegro del que hacemos mención. Concretamente fue el «FACE THE MUSIC TOUR», fechado en marzo de 1976.

El «Face The Music Tour» fue sin duda el trabajo más difícil para la Electric Light Orchestra. Tuvo la lista de fechas más largas de cualquiera de sus giras, además de tener el más amplio y variable Set List. Duró desde agosto de 1975 hasta septiembre de 1976, incluyendo presentaciones en Europa, Norteamérica, Australia y Nueva Zelanda. El inicio de la gira coincidió con el lanzamiento mundial del single Evil Woman a finales de 1975, que alcanzó el top ten en muchos países incluyendo el Reino Unido y EE.UU.

Esta gira también incluyó coristas femeninas durante parte de la gira en EE.UU. (de enero a abril de 1975 al menos). Las coristas femeninas eran de un trío vocal llamado SuMagNa, formado por Susan Collins, Marge Raymond y Nancy O’Neill. Las mismas coristas que aparecen en la grabación de Face The Music, con excepción de Ellie Greenwich.

Jorge Devincenzi halló en su baúl de recuerdos, lo que en principio serían las fotos perdidas del concierto que ELO dio el 23 de marzo de 1976 en el Spectrum Philadelfia, Pennsylvania, USA, popularmente conocido como el “Philly Spectrum”.

La aparición de estas imágenes sorprendió a Marge Raymond y a Susan Collins (quienes ya habían sido entrevistadas por ELO SecretMessages) y les trajo los más gratos recuerdos vividos sobre el escenario junto a la Electric Light Orchestra.

In light of the news of the demolition of THE SPECTRUM, we remember that last year 2009 "ELO SECRET MESSAGES" published a curious and interesting article on its blog in which they recalled one of the ELO concerts at this venue and in which they included several photographs of that event, of which we have collected two, as well as the full article mentioned. Specifically, it was the "FACE THE MUSIC TOUR", dated March 1976.
The title of this article was: Lost Photos from ELO's Face The Music Tour at the Spectrum Philadelphia with SuMagNa
The "Face The Music Tour" was undoubtedly the most difficult job for the Electric Light Orchestra. He had the longest set list of any of his tours, in addition to having the largest and most variable Set List. It lasted from August 1975 to September 1976, including performances in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. The start of the tour coincided with the worldwide release of the single Evil Woman in late1975, which reached the top ten in many countries including the UK and USA.
This tour also included female backup singers during part of the US tour (January to April 1975 at least). The female backup singers were from a vocal trio called SuMagNa, consisting of Susan Collins, Marge Raymond and Nancy O'Neill. The same backup singers that appear on the Face The Music recording, with the exception of Ellie Greenwich.
Jorge Devincenzi found in his trunk of memories, what in principle would be the lost photos of the concert that ELO gave on March 23, 1976 at the Spectrum Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, popularly known as the “Philly Spectrum”.
The appearance of these images surprised Marge Raymond and Susan Collins (who had already been interviewed by ELO SecretMessages) and brought back the most pleasant memories lived on stage with the Electric Light Orchestra.
