Este es uno de los bocetos a lápiz sobre papel de Stephen Bickford para las giras de ELO. Forma parte de una serie «en la que queríamos ver distintas ideas para vestir las alas de los altavoces, y decidimos dibujar sólo un lado del escenario para cada concepto para ahorrar tiempo y dinero». Los dos conceptos eran alternativos: uno con una cubierta de tela metálica temática sobre los altavoces estándar y otro con los altavoces temáticos. El concepto de zona central del escenario podría haberse utilizado con cualquiera de los dos perímetros. El concepto de «armazón de platillo volante» se basaba en la película «Encuentros en la tercera fase», que me encantó porque acababa de estrenarse. Ah, y el platillo volante de ELO.
«Al final, había un enorme armazón redondo lleno de luces que apuntaban hacia abajo, con un caparazón en forma de crustáceo en la parte superior, de modo que cuando empezó a elevarse desde la cubierta al principio del concierto, parecía un platillo volante despegando, con una fuente de energía que salía de la parte inferior», continúa.

This is one of Stephen Bickford's pencil on paper sketches for the ELO tours. It's part of a series "where we wanted to see different ideas for dressing the wings of the speakers, and decided to only draw one side of the stage for each concept to save time and money." The two concepts were alternate: one with a themed wire mesh cover over the standard speakers, and one with the themed speakers. The center stage concept could have been used with either of the two perimeters. The "flying saucer frame" concept was based on the movie "Encounters of the Third Kind" which I loved because it had just been released. Oh, and the ELO flying saucer.
"At the end, there was a huge round truss full of downward-pointing lights, with a crustacean-shaped shell on top, so that when it started to rise up from the deck at the beginning of the concert, it looked like a flying saucer taking off, with a power source coming out of the bottom," he continues.
