«In The Summertime» / Mungo Jerry
Rondaba yo los diez años cuando escuché en casa por primera vez el tema «IN THE SUMERTIME» en el pick-up rojo de mi hermano.
Mi hermano Jesualdo, compraba de forma esporádica singles de la época que resultaban de actualidad por aquel entonces y éste fue uno de ellos, eso sí, de una banda totalmente desconocida para mi como lo era MUNGO JERRY. Nadie me hubiese podido decir a mi entonces que hoy, más de 50 años después estaría escribiendo sobre este disco que yo mismo llegué a pinchar infinidad de veces por su tonadilla empalagosa y pegajosa, especial para fechas veraniegas y que tenía esta misma portada.
Lo curioso del tema es que, por las mismas fechas de 1970, sin yo percatarme de ello, THE IDLE RACE también lanzaron esta misma canción grabada en vinilo y hay quienes pusieron en entredicho la pregunta, de quién era original… Que si es de MUNGO JERRY o es de IDLE RACE… pero sólo hay que ver que el single de éstos últimos de 1970, en la que se atribuye a RAY DORSET líder de MUNGO JERRY la autoría de «IN THE SUMMERTIME» para resolver la duda, restando credibilidad a Wikipedia y RateYourMusic que fecharon en su momento el lanzamiento de IDLE RACE en 1969.
Como curiosidad añadiremos que Ray Dorset dijo en su momento que terminó esta canción en unos diez minutos, lo cual pensamos que es una excelente relación entre el esfuerzo y el resultado final.

I was around ten years old when I heard the song "IN THE SUMERTIME" at home for the first time in my brother's red pick-up.
My brother Jesualdo, sporadically bought singles of the time that were current at that time and this was one of them, yes, from a band totally unknown to me like MUNGO JERRY was. No one could have told me then that today, more than 50 years later, I would be writing about this record that I myself played countless times due to its cloying and catchy tune, especially for summer dates and that had this same cover.
The curious thing about the subject is that, around the same time in 1970, without me realizing it, THE IDLE RACE also released this same song recorded on vinyl and there are those who questioned the question of whose original it was… What if it is by MUNGO JERRY or is it by IDLE RACE… but you just have to see that the single of the latter from 1970, in which RAY DORSET, leader of MUNGO JERRY, is credited with authoring "IN THE SUMMERTIME" to clear up the doubt, subtracting credibility from Wikipedia and RateYourMusic, which at the time dated the release of IDLE RACE to 1969.
As a curiosity we will add that Ray Dorset said at the time that he finished this song in about ten minutes, which we think is an excellent relation between the effort and the final result.
