FOON… más Rock Lynne!!

Iniciar la escucha de algo inédito del Jeffe, supone algo así como disponerme a excavar ilusionado en un valioso y prometedor… filón musical. Afanado en la seguridad de saber que en ese batear de temas y haciendo girar, a modo de criba, el plato de mi tocadiscos…alguna pepita de oro de incomparable pureza, acabo extrayendo de esa veta, para poder echar en mi particular… joyero musical.

Después de escuchar con detenimiento el nuevo trabajo de este consagrado hombre orquesta, caigo en la cuenta de cómo hace casi tres décadas, nos invitó a acomodar en su “Butaca de Teatro” para avanzar a su audiencia la deriva de sus propósitos y posteriores derroteros. Se desprendía ya por aquel entonces del elaborado sonido ELO sinfónico, con la intención de… pragmatizarlo y adecuarlo a su genial antojo, en la a veces seudo apariencia de una mayor simplicidad en estructuras compositivas.

Con su referente más espiritual en “Cloud Nine” o posteriormente en “Brainwashed”, su impronta y aportaciones comenzaban a consolidar los sonidos que en el presente podemos aún identificar; Esas mismas permeables inclinaciones, mojadas a la orilla del río Wilbury… nutrido por sus caudalosos afluentes. Claro que hubo también años, antes y después, de…afamado compositor mercenario que ocupado en sus encargos, dejó en el olvido o en stand-by a sus fans…

Intensas experiencias, en definitiva, que terminaron por ubicar sus preferencias y trayectoria, trabajando con propios y ajenos pero fiel a su carismática horma.

Tiempo después, este peculiar sonido Rock Lynne se hizo más preponderante cuando Jeff nos hizo un “Zoom” sobre su estilo ya propio y definido, sumando luego a éste, una vena más retro-intimista en “Long Wave” que ahora en FOON persiste, ahondando en ambos registros & rangos, con aportación de tres temas en la misma wave/onda, aunque en esta ocasión, todo…de factura propia; Rock Lynne, again !!

Aprecio en la atenta escucha, como cabía esperar… Sucesión de lloronas guitarras Harrisonianas; melancólicos golpes de bajo & batería cadenciosa con matices “bluesy”; mELOdías de otra Epic-época; brillos ELOgantes pero SIN el boato y sofisticación de antaño; marcados ritmos arropando nostalgias; por todo el menú, agudos ecos ELO… de guarnición perenne; notas musicales radiofónicas, rescatadas de la memoria infantil de un Birminghense por nombre Jeffrey; sus exclusivos bombones con sello de autor; destellos deslumbrantes contemporáneos pero demodé… Para muchos de nosotros… siempre armoniosas sutilezas sonoras sin parangón. Recuerdos sonoros mejorables, en calidad de casete y walkman… “at home”, cuando nuestras vidas transcurrían con menos vértigo…tiempo de electric lights sin modernos leds!

Y es por ésto que FOON puede parecernos un MIX de sus trabajos anteriores; A.T., Zoom, L.W. & AITU, pero que no hace sino confirmar la progresión evolutiva del artista, la que ÉL… ha decidido. Y ahora se permite sacar al mercado y exponer para nuestra subjetiva consideración, un repertorio compendio de su identidad, avalada ya por décadas. Es muy posible, no obstante, que NO sea del agrado de muchos de los que siguen empeñados en hallar un… “SecuELO resurrection”.

Para un fan como yo, Jeff Lynne ha logrado, interpretándose a sí mismo, un trabajo encomiable en fondo y forma; mantiene y combina animados temas, con otros más profundos y sosegados, propicios a auditorio reducido con luces tenues. Su inconfundible voz parece haber hecho un pacto “evil woman” de inmortalidad. En MI criba encuentro alojadas, como siempre, brillantes pepitas…No tantas como a mi ambición de fan le gustaría… la fiebre de Eldorado nos queda muy distante…ese filón se agotó!

FOON es otra obra memorable y anacrónica que gana valor mirándola con la perspectiva del reconocimiento, del fan indulgente, a los años de oficio de nuestro artista; dónde las esencias del Rock & Roll son aglutinadas con tal maestría como para que los melómanos LE reconozcamos su autoría al primer compás… manteniéndonos incólumes por este afecto musical minoritario y hasta obsoleto…pero ausente de complejos improcedentes ya sea por el respeto que le debemos a nuestras canas o a nuestro bagaje cultural.

Gracias Jeff, por esta extraordinaria aportación. Please, “Help us”!

Termino con una obvia observación e indirecta… la masiva afluencia a tus giras por un público discreto, maduro & silencioso, sigue avalando tu vigencia músico/vital y la de tu OBRA!!

To start listening to something new from Jeff is like preparing myself to enthusiastically dig into a valuable and promising musical vein. Busy in the assurance of knowing that in the batting of songs and rotating, as a sieve, the plate of my turntable… some nuggets of gold of incomparable purity are extracted from that vein, to be placed in my personal musical jewelry box.
After carefully listening to the new work of this established one-man orchestra, I realize how almost three decades ago, he invited us to settle into his "Theater Seat" to advance to his audience the drift of his intentions and subsequent courses. He was already shedding the elaborate symphonic sound of ELO back then, with the intention of pragmatizing it and adapting it to his ingenious whims, sometimes in the pseudo appearance of greater simplicity in compositional structures.
With his spiritual reference in "Cloud Nine" or later in "Brainwashed," his imprint and contributions began to consolidate the sounds that we can still identify today; those permeable inclinations, soaked at the Wilbury riverbank, nourished by its mighty tributaries. Of course, there were also years, before and after, of a renowned mercenary composer who, occupied with his commissions, left his fans in oblivion or on standby.
Intense experiences, in short, that ended up placing his preferences and trajectory, working with his own and others but faithful to his charismatic mold.
Later, this peculiar Lynne Rock sound became more predominant when Jeff gave us a "Zoom" into his already own and defined style, later adding to it a more retro-intimate vein in "Long Wave," which now persists in "FROM OUT OF NOWHERE," delving into both registers and ranges, with the contribution of three songs in the same wave, although this time, all… of his own making; Rock Lynne, again!
I appreciate, in the attentive listening, as expected… a succession of weeping Harrisonian guitars; melancholic bass and rhythmic drumming with "bluesy" nuances; melodies from another Epic era; elegant ELO shines but WITHOUT the splendor and sophistication of yesteryear; marked rhythms embracing nostalgia; throughout the menu, high ELO echoes… a perennial garnish; radio-friendly musical notes, rescued from the childhood memory of a Brummie named Jeffrey; his exclusive homemade chocolates; dazzling contemporary yet outdated flashes… For many of us… always harmonious sound subtleties without equal. Improvable sound memories, on cassette and walkman… "at home," when our lives passed with less vertigo… a time of electric lights without modern LEDs!
And that's why "FROM OUT OF NOWHERE" may seem like a MIX of his previous works; A.T., Zoom, L.W. & AITU, but it only confirms the evolutionary progression of the artist, the one HE… has decided. And now he allows himself to release and expose to our subjective consideration a repertoire that is a compendium of his identity, already endorsed by decades. However, it is very possible that it may NOT be to the liking of many who are still determined to find a… "SecuELO resurrection."
For a fan like me, Jeff Lynne has accomplished, interpreting himself, a commendable work in substance and form; he maintains and combines lively themes with others deeper and more serene, suitable for a small audience with dim lights. His unmistakable voice seems to have made an "evil woman" pact of immortality. In MY sieve, I find housed, as always, brilliant nuggets… Not as many as my fan ambition would like… the Eldorado fever is far away… that vein ran out!
"FROM OUT OF NOWHERE" is another memorable and anachronistic work that gains value when viewed with the perspective of recognition, of the indulgent fan, to the years of our artist's profession; where the essences of Rock & Roll are agglutinated with such mastery that music lovers recognize his authorship at the first beat… keeping ourselves unscathed by this minority and even obsolete musical affection… but absent from improper complexes either out of respect for our gray hair or our cultural background.

I finish with an obvious observation and hint… the massive attendance to your tours by a discreet, mature, and silent audience continues to endorse your musical/vital relevance and that of your WORK!!
