Fallece Trevor Francis

TREVOR FRANCIS, jugador de fútbol inglés y uno de los íntimos amigos de JEFF LYNNE así como de BEV BEVAN nos ha dejado a la edad de 69 años a causa de un infarto en su casa de Marbella, España, donde solía pasar la mitad del año. Ganó dos Copas de Europa con el Nottingham Forest y marcó el gol del triunfo en la final de 1979.

El delantero inglés se convirtió en el primer jugador del Reino Unido cuyo traspaso, del Birmingham City al Nottingham Forest en 1979, superó el millón de libras (1,15 millones de euros al cambio actual).

Tras su retirada, inició una carrera como entrenador y dirigió, entre otros, al Sheffield Wednesday y al Birmingham City.

En el libro «THE ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA STORY» BEVAN dice de él:

El principal interés fuera de la música, y de su esposa e hija, es el deporte. Cuando se mudó a su casa de Warwickshire había unas cosas que necesitaban hacerse (cocina, baños, etc.). Así que ¿qué fue la primera cosa que hizo? Convirtió uno de los dormitorios en una sala de billar y construyó una portería de medidas reglamentarias en el jardín. Un visitante frecuente de la casa para uso de esas instalaciones particulares es la estrella del fútbol inglés, Trevor Francis, uno de los más íntimos amigos de Jeff y un ferviente admirador de la ELO.

TREVOR FRANCIS, English soccer player and one of the close friends of JEFF LYNNE as well as BEV BEVAN has left us at the age of 69 due to a heart attack at his home in Marbella, Spain, where he used to spend half the year. He won two European Cups with Nottingham Forest and scored the winning goal in the 1979 final.
The English forward became the first player from the United Kingdom whose transfer, from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest in 1979, exceeded one million pounds (1.15 million euros at current exchange rates).
After his retirement, he launched a coaching career, managing Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City, among others.

In the book "THE ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA STORY" BEVAN says of him:
The main interest outside of music, and his wife and daughter, is sports. When he moved into his Warwickshire home there were a few things that needed to be done (kitchen, bathrooms, etc.). So what was the first thing he did? He converted one of the bedrooms into a billiards room and built a regulation size goal in the garden. A frequent visitor to the house for use of these particular facilities is English soccer star Trevor Francis, one of Jeff's closest friends and an ardent ELO fan.
