Crónica de una «Divina Comedia» en Valencia

No podemos comparar nunca un concierto de ELO con el que el pasado miércoles ofreció tan dignamente THE DIVINE COMEDY en La Rambleta de Valencia por motivos más que evidentes y, aunque NEIL HANNON es un FAN de JEFF LYNNE, como tantos de nosotros, y dejando esto constatado y verificado, hemos de ceñirnos a lo que, con pleno acierto, vimos y escuchamos una noche de «Divina Comedia» quienes acudimos a verle a ÉL y su extraordinaria banda en la Capital del Turia.

Sin parafernalias de ningún tipo, sin pantallas gigantes con proyecciones espectaculares, sin grandes luces psicodélicas, sin láseres de colores, sin adornos de ningún tipo… Sólo con los necesarios instrumentos musicales sobre un escenario limpio de polvo y paja como se suele decir, subieron entre aplausos los cinco acompañantes de NEIL entre las sombras de un recinto prácticamente a oscuras para situarse en sus puestos, y al son de las primeras notas se hizo la luz y apareció el líder de la banda con su característico caminar, entre los aplausos de la grada que arreciaban y que ya habían reconocido esos primeros acordes y lo que traía bajo el brazo el recién llegado… El espectáculo estaba servido. Las minorías de las que tan pocos disfrutan estábamos pletóricas y arropando a quien habrá de ser un día elevado a lo altares, y esto me recuerda a aquellos críticos que no supieron ver a tiempo en ELO/JEFF la grandiosidad de su obra.

THE DIVINE COMEDY voló desde el escenario hasta cada uno de sus acólitos súbditos en apenas unos minutos, pues la calidad de sus temas e interpretación fue apabullante y abrumadora a partes iguales desde el inicio hasta el final de un show que recogió su mejor repertorio musical, así como los mayores de los aplausos de un público entregado y expectante ante cada nuevo tema. Momentos de calma y escucha atenta, momentos de relax y alboroto total se turnaban al son de la música interpretada de forma magistral y acorde a una banda que se precie de recorrer el mundo in temor a una mala crítica.

EXQUISITEZ. EXCLUSIVIDAD. ELEGANCIA. Son las palabras que resumen una GRAN ACTUACIÓN que volvería a repetir a la menor oportunidad, puesto que el resultado y la satisfacción está aegurada al 100%.

Sorprendente la poca visibilidad y publicidad de un evento que supera con creces cualquier otro de los anunciados dentro de la programación de La Rambleta para todo el verano de 2024. Inentendible. Nada. Ni fuera, ni dentro, indicaba lo que iba a suceder allí ese día y a esa hora… Posiblemente y con total seguridad, el mejor de los eventos de La Rambleta del año y ni un sólo cartel cerca, ni tampoco en el programa oficial impreso.

Antes de acceder al recinto donde se debia celebrar mi Primera Comunión con THE DIVINE COMEDY en vivo, puesto que su música ya me acompaña varios años curando mis heridas, tuve una SORPRESA INESPERADA en mis redes sociales de forma personal y de parte del TEAM de TDC, donde se me citaba a una hora concreta de la tarde para hacerme una fotografía junto a NEIL HANNON… sin otras posibilidades. Eso permitió que, mientras esperamos, escuchásemos parte de las pruebas de sonido antes de nuestro encuentro fugaz pero intenso.

NEIL, protegido por su manager, se mostró muy afable y comunicativo teniendo en cuenta que acababa de bajar del escenario después de más de una hora de ensayo. Además, amablemente me autografió la entrada al evento dándole un valor añadido que no hubiese permitido verse comprometida su integridad de ninguna de las maneras al acceder al espacio donde se celebraría la Eucaristía dos horas después. De esta manera, no sólo me traje a casa la experiencia de vivir el directo de THE DIVINE COMEDY, sino que además, me traje el haber conocido de forma personal a NEIL HANNON y su autógrafo.

Por supuesto, le agradecí lo que su música ha supuesto a mi vida y como anécdota le comenté que si JEFF LYNNE es para mi, «THE BEST», él era «THE SECOND BEST», a lo que él respondió con muchas risas compartidas por cuánta diferencia hay entre ambos, aunque yo no vea tanta importancia en ello como quizá él viese.

El norirlandés va camino de hacerse hueco entre los grandes músicos del momento, aunque para mi y para otros muchos ya lo consideramos así, y pienso que no será muy tarde cuando los sibaritas mELOmanos se fijen en ÉL y lo eleven donde le corresponde. Mientras tanto, sólo espero y deseo conocer cuándo entrará al estudio a grabar su próximo álbum que nos traiga nuevas melodías de éxito.

Por lo pronto, la experiencia ha sido más que favorable y el recuerdo queda indeleble para siempre en mi memoria, donde otro de mis héroes musicales ya permanece imborrable siendo, entre ellos, ya conocidos en la vida real.

ELOSPAIN:

We can never compare an ELO concert with the one offered so worthily by THE DIVINE COMEDY last Wednesday at La Rambleta in Valencia for more than obvious reasons. Although NEIL HANNON is a FAN of JEFF LYNNE, like many of us, and leaving this stated and verified, we must stick to the fact that we accurately came to see HIM and his extraordinary band in the Capital of Turia.
Without any kind of paraphernalia, without giant screens with spectacular projections, without big psychedelic lights, without colored lasers, without any adornments... Only with the necessary musical instruments on a clean stage, as they say, the five companions of NEIL climbed among applause from the shadows of a practically dark venue to take their places, and to the sound of the first notes, the light came on and the band leader appeared with his characteristic walk, amid the applause of the stands that were growing louder and that already recognized those first chords and what the newcomer was bringing under his arm... The show was served. The few who enjoy such minorities were thrilled and supporting someone who will one day be elevated to the altars, and this reminds me of those critics who did not see in time the greatness of ELO/JEFF's work.
THE DIVINE COMEDY flew from the stage to each of its devoted followers in just a few minutes, as the quality of their songs and performance was overwhelming and astonishing in equal parts from the beginning to the end of a show that included their best musical repertoire, as well as the greatest applause from a dedicated and expectant audience with each new song. Moments of calm and attentive listening, moments of relaxation and total uproar alternated to the rhythm of the music.
EXQUISITENESS. EXCLUSIVITY. ELEGANCE. These are the words that sum up a GREAT PERFORMANCE that I would repeat at the slightest opportunity, as the result and satisfaction are guaranteed 100%.
It is surprising how little visibility and publicity an event that far surpasses any other announced within La Rambleta's summer 2024 program received. Unbelievable. Nothing, neither outside nor inside, indicated what was going to happen there that day and at that time... Possibly and surely, the best event of the year at La Rambleta, and not a single poster nearby, nor in the official printed program.
Before entering the venue where my First Communion with THE DIVINE COMEDY live was to be celebrated, since their music has accompanied me for several years healing my wounds, I had an UNEXPECTED SURPRISE on my social media, personally from the TDC TEAM, where I was summoned to a specific time in the afternoon to take a photo with NEIL HANNON... without other possibilities. This allowed us, while waiting, to listen to part of the soundcheck before our brief but intense meeting.
NEIL, protected by his manager, was very friendly and communicative considering he had just come down from the stage after more than an hour of rehearsal. Additionally, he kindly autographed my event ticket, giving it an added value that would not have compromised its integrity in any way when accessing the space where the Eucharist would be celebrated two hours later. In this way, I not only took home the experience of living THE DIVINE COMEDY live, but I also got to meet NEIL HANNON personally and received his autograph.
Of course, I thanked him for what his music has meant to my life and, as an anecdote, I told him that if JEFF LYNNE is "THE BEST" for me, he was "THE SECOND BEST," to which he responded with much shared laughter due to the difference between the two, although I don't see as much importance in it as he might.
The Northern Irishman is on his way to making a place among the great musicians of the moment, although for me and many others we already consider him as such, and I think it won't be long before the discerning mELOmaniacs take notice of HIM and elevate him to where he belongs. Meanwhile, I only hope and wish to know when he will enter the studio to record his next album that brings us new melodies of success.
For now, the experience has been more than favorable, and the memory remains indelible forever in my memory, where another of my musical heroes is now permanently etched, known in real life.
